8 Things I Learnt From Going Blonde
I always wanted to dye my hair blonde, but I was afraid of several things. Will it suit me? Is it going to damage my hair?, etc.
Here, I'm sharing 8 things you need TO KNOW BEFORE GOING BLONDE.
1. THE RIGHT TONE MATTERS
Anyone can look good with blonde locks, but it has to go with your skin tone. Unless you want to get attention, in a bad way. I'm guessing you don't ;) So do some research on different tones of blonde that will compliment your skin color.
2. IT HURTS/ALLERGIES DO EXIST
Not many people share this, but it actually really hurts when the bleach is on the scalp, and it just makes the scalp drier and sensitive altogether. Before you decide to go all out and put bleach on your scalp, place a little bit of bleach on your scalp and see if you can withstand it for a couple of minutes.
3. IT IS A COMMITMENT
It is costly to maintain the blonde look. Don't go and get your hair done thinking that's the only expense. Cost ranges anywhere from $120-$250/per month depending on what you are getting and where you are getting it done. Never try to cut corners, I know I did and I had to go the next day to a different salon to get it fixed (lol).
4. A LITTLE DAMAGE IS GOOD
I'm loving the damage I got from dying my hair. Yep I know that sounds crazy but let me explain. I have super straight, healthy, and silky black hair. I get it from my mom. I love it, but whenever I would curl my hair, it would go back to straight no matter what I did to it. Now that my hair is slightly damaged, it actually holds the curls better than before, and gives me those bouncy curls that every girl with hard-to-curl hair desires.
5. DON'T GET SCARED
Black hair is going to have strong orange-yellow tone immediately after bleaching that just doesn't look right. You have to tone your hair after bleaching if you do not want to look like an Oompa loompa. I didn't know this and apparently the first hair dresser I went to didn't know either. I did my research and went to a really good salon. They were asking for $250, which I thought was ridiculous to spend to just dye hair, and I felt as if I was getting ripped off. So, I basically tried cutting corners and went to a place that was doing it for half the price. After it was done, and the moment I saw my hair in the mirror I was almost about to burst into tears. It looked horrible, with strong orange/pumpkin tinge. It was not cute at all. I thought they did it wrong, but turns out it just needed toning. I got it fixed the next day at the same salon that I initially overlooked.
6. IT TAKES TIME
If you have long hair, and it is black, it is going to take a lot of time. It took 5 hours. Yes, FIVE hours for two people to dye, wash, and dry my hair. The process is long.
7. GET IT DONE
If it is the first time you are bleaching your hair, get it done by a professional. Never try doing it at home for the first time, unless you're lucky and your best friend is a hair dresser.
8. PURPLE SHAMPOO IS EVERYTHING
Purple shampoo is not going to color your hair, but it is going to cancel out the orange-yellow tone, and keep the perfect blonde color last much longer.
If you ever visit Kobe, and you want to go to a salon that has hairdressers who have experience with foreign styles, and have private rooms (at a surcharge), I would suggest going and checking out a salon in Sannomiya, KAINO. The girl that I got my hair done from was trained in London with styles to compliment the individual's complexion and physique.
The service they provide is amazing, I was very content with the results.
She even brought me some hot chocolate and biscuits! :'D
I hope you enjoyed!
